Living in Melbourne, we all know that the weather can change in an instant. Predicted storms can head our way, and then disappear in almost an instant.
Our courts are specifically designed to handle wet weather, so just because it is raining - does not mean we will cancel.
At no stage will we put players under any undue risk by forcing them to play in heavy or substantial rain. Sometimes even consistent lighter rain over a long period of time, can cause the courts to be come water logged and unsafe. Our Court Supervisors have been trained in recognising when the courts are unsafe.
Players should never assume that just because it is wet that the night will be called off. If the night does get cancelled, our website will be updated to show this in the Weather Watch section to the left, and Captains will be notified.
In the case of light rain, yet the courts being deemed safe to play - there is an onus on players to use common sense and slow down their game play slightly.
If a night is going to be calcelled in full, generally this will occour around 5.30pm dependant on current rain, how long it has been raining for and what is predicted for the remainder of the night. We use the Melbourne BOM website/radar to make this decision.
If the night has commenced and a decision is made through out the night to cancel one or more timeslots, we will endeavour to make this decision 30 minutes prior to the game, to give players enough notice to not attend. Unfortunately, as mentioned above; living in Melbourne means unpredicatble weather - so giving 30 minutes notice is not always possible.
